What's legal and what's not?
If you past your car test before January 1st 1997 then you are allowed to drive a vehicle and trailer up to 8.25 tonnes combined laden weight.
If you past your car test after 1st January 1997 then you can only drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes with a trailer up to 750kgs laden weight, or a car and trailer with a combined laden weight providing the laden weight of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle.
If this is the case then you will need to pass your B+E car and trailer driving test.
Sounds a bit confusing and if you are unsure, just contact me and i will give you my expert advice. The penalty of getting caught without the correct licence is 9 penalty points as you will not be insured, and a maximum fine of £5000.
Your Tuition
OPTION 1
Bring your caravan/trailer and car to a designated location for your course. The fee is £50 for the 1st hour and then £35 for each hour after that. This then gives the flexability of how quickly you pick up the skill and feel confident. We will go through all the safety features of hitching up & unhitching your caravan. You may only need 1 hour or you may need 3. Every one is different and this option gives you flexability. By the end of the course you will have the confidence to be able to reverse a caravan /trailer.
OPTION 2
I will come to your house, help you hitch up the caravan/trailer safely, drive to the designated location for the course.The fee is £50 for the 1st hour and then £35 for each hour after that. We will then drive back to you house. Travel time is included in the price. By the end of the course you will have the confidence to hitch up your caravan/trailer, drive on the road and reverse with ease.
OPTION 3
Bring your tow vehicle to the designated location for your course and we can hitch up my trailer. The fee is £50 for the 1st hour and then £35 for each hour after that. By the end of the couse you will have the confidence to be able to reverse a trailer.
